Soon I’ll be back in the GTO. I’ll be going to the body shop tomorrow to look over the accumulated parts and replace a squealing belt tensioner that has been bugging the shit out of me on cold starts.
First up, the original damage. Bleh.
Not pretty. This is the other day with it stripped to the frame. The core support, inner and outer fender are being replaced. We found a GTO being parted out in Houston and we took the whole front clip and fenders. The passenger side frame rail need to be straightened but that and the front crossmember are easily put back into place and straightened with...
A torture rack! It really does look like some instrument of torture. (Bravehart) I wasn’t around when it actually went on the frame machine since the shop has been working late nights to get around the holidays.
Back on the road in the next week or so.

Dang, I thought that’d be a write-off given the scarcity of GTO body parts! Great news, hope you get that beast up and running soon!

Wait, who hit your GTO?

I’m so happy that it will live again!

I killed my mom in a yellow GTO. Weirdest dream ever. Congrats to getting back on the road.

Aww, so I can’t have the drivetrain for my Trans Am? *sadface*

It is. No way to fix these cars with new parts pricing. Totalled, repaired, and back on the road. I’ll post about how I worked insurance and such later.

Oh no, my friend’s dad called dibs immediately.

Me and and a TXU utility pole...

Shit, I’m sorry to hear that.

Are those Monaro headlights? They don’t look like GTO headlights for some reason.

Nah, they’re stock. I found a stock replacement for $40. Can’t beat that.

Best of luck getting her back together!

I’m actually surprised that was totalled. I had way more damage to mine when I get hit in the driver’s quarter panel 3 years ago. I think all said and done the grand total came to around $10k. My insurance paid for all of it.

Mine was close to that total amount. However the frame issues were the problem. They refuse to repair frame damage. Only replace it. Which is just ridiculous in some circumstances.

I’m glad your GTO is being fixed, and I’m surprised it isn’t totalled. Did you order the Monaro clip for it? Or at least got the new SAP fascia from GTOG8TA?

Yeah, that’s awful. I had very slight frame damage to mine. There was a little buckling visible if you pulled the carpet back in the trunk.

All original parts that I sourced part of from Mobile Attractions in Florida. He strips GTO’s for parts so I got a lot of the wiring and lights and little bits from him. He also makes parts for them like SAP fascias and spoilers. Everything else my body shop found.
I actually rather like the original look for the front end so I’ll change a few things but didn’t want to deviate too far from where I started. This is also helped my total parts bill to be about a third of what insurance came up with.

That’s cool. He is fairly new to the GTO world, but I have seen the sap grilles, fascia, splitters, and waiting for the goldilocks spoiler to realeased. Back in the day Cleavand pick a part was the only place for GTO parts. You should get the yellow arrowheads from Maverick man. Because the originals are becoming a pain to find without costing an arm and leg.

Yeah they are. I’m actually deleting the front emblems and all the badging. Weight reduction...

Hahahaha! Putting race seats in will help more.

I know but they’re so damn comfortable.

I know! They have spoiled me so much. I actually prefer my GTO seats over the seats in my SS sedan.

A Monaro and a Commodore. Just can’t get enough eh?
![]() 01/05/2016 at 20:18 |

Guess I’m dumb. Please tell me I am not alone when I thought they looked like Monaro headlights.

They’re pretty similar.

I’d have a Maloo too, but GM had to go bankrupt...

Remind me in a few years, we’ll get a twofer deal to import them. I’d love one.

Heck yeah! Or we can go to one of the people who legally convert G8s, GTOs, and SSs into the Utes.
![]() 01/06/2016 at 16:49 |

There’s are few enough GTO/G8/SS’s here already though.
![]() 01/06/2016 at 19:18 |

But you take one that the FPFQ messed up, and turn it into a very nice Ute. :)
